Student Funding - Bursaries & Loans

The Directorate administers donor funds, in the form of study loans and bursaries, according to donors' criteria. Our main aim is to assist financially needy and academically deserving students. We are proud of the fact that the Directorate has empowered a large number of students from different Colleges and diverse geographical groups. Our vision is to be a beacon of great hope and excellence to our clients.

Our mission is to effectively and efficiently administer all funding at our disposal by ensuring that every stakeholder, particularly students and donors, receive high-quality service from a committed and professional DSF team.

Applications are now open for the Unisa Council Bursary

Unisa Council has again made money available to assist Unisa students in the following categories:

  • Students who could not graduate because of outstanding debt
  • Continuing students with outstanding debt
  • New students who could not be assisted by NSFAS

To qualify for this bursary, students must apply and meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African student
  • Be registered for a formal qualification
  • Must have obtained at least a 55% average

The vetting of applications will be done by an external service provider to verify the authenticity of the information submitted. A means test will be conducted to determine financial neediness. Incomplete forms will not be considered. Click here for the application form.

The deadline for applications is 31 May 2018. Please note that the outcome of your application will be communicated to you via SMS and your myLife e-mail account.

DAC Linguistics bursary:
(Only for re-applicants. No new applications will be accepted.)

    Students registered for a BA, BAHons or Masters degree in:
    • African Languages
    • Linguistics
    • Language Practice
  • What does the bursary cover:
    The bursary covers:
    • Tuition
    • Textbooks
    • Academic Essentials
  • When can I apply:
