Do you have what it takes to be a VJ?

Are you a vibrant, ambitious Unisa student, living your life in colour? Are you between the ages of 18-26 and have you always wanted to become a TV or radio presenter? Well, here a GREAT opportunity for you to be mentored by MTV Base to potentially become the next great VJ! 

MTV Base is partnering with Unisa Radio to source four hopefuls who aspire to be the next MTV Base VJ, like Tshego Koke, who will attend a master class on 20 July  2018 at Unisa's Sunnyside Campus in Pretoria.

The four finalists will get:

  1. An opportunity to be interviewed at Unisa Radio
  2. An opportunity to be mentored by a current MTV Base VJ
  3. To be the face of Unisa's potential 2018 MTV Base VJ
  4. A goodie bag from MTV Base and the campaign sponsors


How to enter:

  1. Record a 30-second (max) link/video clip showing us your VJ personality.
  2. Upload the video on either Facebook OR Twitter.

Tag @unisaradio and @MTVBaseSouth using #MTVBaseVJSEARCH and #MorningCruiseShow and #LiveYourLifeInColour 

If you're uploading the video on Facebook:

Mention Unisa Radio and MTV Base South on your post and use #MTVBaseVJSEARCH and #MorningCruiseShow as your caption. Only one video clip per candidate.

NB: The final four candidates will be contacted by Unisa Radio AFTER 13 July via social media. 

The competition runs from 2-13 July at 23:59, so start recording!


Entrants must be 

  1. South African citizens
  2. current, registered Unisa students
  3. between the ages of 18-26
  4. willing to travel to the Sunnyside Campus for the master class and attend the VJ Search auditions at their own cost
  5. active on Twitter or Facebook
  6. vibrant and ambitious, and live their life in colour 

Successful candidates will be required to bring a copy of their IDs and proof of registration to the master class.

  • By posting your video clip tagging the  designated pages and the correct hashtags you agree to the terms and conditions of University of South Africa and Unisa Radio.
  • All online entries must be submitted by 13 July 2018 at 23:59.
  • All persons who enter by this method must have the permission of the person in whose name the recording device is held and/or who pays the data bill.
  • No responsibility will be accepted by the University of South Africa and Unisa Radio for late or lost entries and for any cost or charges incurred by any entrant who enters the competition.
  • The University of South Africa and Unisa Radio shall not be liable for any reason to any person who may enter the competition. Each person enters at their own risk and cost.
  • Personal details, which have been submitted for the competition, will be held by Unisa radio. This information will be shared with third parties involved with the competition for the administration of the competition and/or for the general marketing purposes and all entrants hereby consent to their personal information being used as contemplated herein.
  • No verbal/telephonic withdrawals from the competition will be accepted. Any winner wanting to withdraw from the competition must do so in writing by sending an email to with copies of heir ID and proofs of registration attached.
  • The competition is open to all South African citizens who fit the criteria as stated.
  • Entrants should be between the ages of 18-26 years old and any entrant over or under the age limit will automatically be disqualified. Unisa radio reserves the right to replace disqualified entrants with any other entry that Unisa Radio deems fit.
  • All four winners must supply Unisa radio with copies of their IDs and copies of proof of registration with the University of South Africa as soon as they are announced as the winners on Unisa Radio and on Unisa radio's social media pages.
  • Any fraudulent activity/ies or any activities of an entrant construed as discriminatory in nature, hate speech or defamatory comments from any participant /winners will result in the said participant being automatically disqualified.
  • Winners will be called into studio for a radio interview with Unisa Radio between the dates 16-20 July 2018 at the University of South Africa, Sunnyside Campus, Building 4.
  • The master class will take place on the 20th of July 2018 at the, University of South Africa, Sunnyside Campus, Building 4.
  • The winners of the competition will be offered mentorship and goodie bags courtesy of MTV Networks Africa and their sponsors
  •  If the winners are unable to make it to studio for the interviews and master class on the set date by Unisa Radio, they will automatically be disqualified from the competition.
  • Unisa Radio reserves the right to alter rules or prizes at their own discretion.
  • Where for any reason beyond the reasonable control of Unisa Radio the competition cannot be carried out and/or completed as planned and/or advertised, Unisa Radio reserves the right to cancel the competition at any time and in such event shall not be liable to any person for any reason who may have entered the competition.
