Update regarding extension of examination period

Dear Student

Following the University decision on the 25th of April 2017 to postpone the first 2 weeks of the May/June examinations, we promised to provide further information. To this end, the following arrangements have been made:

For modules scheduled in the first 2 weeks of the examination there are now 2 options for students to write their examinations;

  • Option 1 is from the 2nd of May 2017 as per the original time table;

  • Option 2 is from the 10th of June 2017 as per the new time table that will follow.

 Students may direct all queries pertaining to this communication to the following email address:

Yours sincerely,
Prof M Makhanya
Principal and Vice-Chancellor

Please take note of the following important information:

  • The options detailed above are only valid for modules written during the first two weeks of the May/June examination period. Modules written from 15 May to 9 June 2017 are not affected by this change and will continue as originally scheduled.
  • Students are advised to write their examinations as per the original timetable. (Examination venues for the new dates are not guaranteed and students may be required to write their papers in venues that are different to their selected venues.)
  • Affected students must only make use of one of the examination options available. If you write both papers, the university will mark the first attempt.
  • Students are not required to contact the university or complete any forms to write the second option. The university will ensure that there are sufficient papers available for each sitting.
  • Updated examination timetables will be available next week.
