Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide students with the opportunity of becoming acquainted with formal teaching in the practical school situation and to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the all modules of this programme. This module focuses on teaching and learning strategies in practice and in growing the student's competencies in teaching. This module, is an essential part of the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes in the Intermediate and Senior phase. All the Initial Teacher Education programmes have three components, namely educational theory, professional studies and teaching practice, which is the most fascinating part of the professional preparation of teachers. This practical experience will allow the student to experience authentic teaching and learning in real school situations. It will also assist the student in bridging theory and practice. The Teaching Practice module forms part of a series of learning situations for prospective teachers in which they are systematically confronted with, or can practice, concrete activities of teaching and classroom management while supervised by experienced teachers and mentors.
