Purpose: Criminal procedure, as a division of adjective (or formal) law, requires an understanding of the rules and procedures prescribed to employ the common and statutory law principles of substantive law. In order to comply with the rule of law; procedural-law mechanisms are prescribed that allow criminal law principles to be applied. The purpose of this module is to instill the theoretical knowledge and context required relating to the pre-trial process in order for students to gain knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies in order to analyse and solve challenges relating to the general and statutory principles of the law of pre-trial criminal procedure.
