Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide students with detailed knowledge, skills and values to conduct road safety and infrastructure audits; apply and interpret the five pillars of road safety as prescribed by the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020; explain the causes and the impact of driver fatigue on road users; analyse and apply the ten focus areas to improve road safety; explain the global impact of Road Traffic Injuries. Upon completion, students should be able to conduct road safety and infrastructure audits within the traffic law enforcement environment. Targeted students include SAPS personnel who want to improve on their road traffic enforcement skills, police personnel in the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD’s), municipal police officials, Provincial traffic police officials and national traffic police (NTP). This will also include police personnel of foreign law enforcement agencies registered for this module.
