Ingrid practised in the field of social work for 12 years at different government departments, NGO’s and CBO’s before joining the academia.  She has lectured policing students from diploma to the post graduate level since 1994. She currently lectures BTech students and supervises MTech students in Policing.  She is registered for a DLitt et Phil degree with Unisa’s Department of Psychology.

She has conducted numerous training workshops for policing, forensic nurses and NGO’s on understanding the social context of domestic violence.  She serves on the board of the Gauteng Mental Health Society.  She has been referee for a journal dealing with child abuse in South Africa.  She has also been involved in ethics training for the Scorpion Special Investigator Unit.  She has published several chapters in a book on Smart Policing in South Africa and done research and published articles on domestic violence, therapeutic jurisprudence and child abuse
