Prof Monde Ntwasa

Monde Ntwasa is Professor of Biochemistry at University of South Africa (UNISA). He completed his BSc(Hons) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and the Master of Philosophy and PhD at Cambridge University, United Kingdom.

While at Cambridge he studied early embryonic development using the fruitfly, Drosophila Melanogaster as a model. He then returned to the University of Cape Town Medical School as a research Fellow studying early embryonic development and lipid modification of proteins.

In 1999, he accepted a position as a lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) where he lectured in Biochemistry until 2016. During this time at Wits University, his research developed cancer and innate immunity. In 2013 he accepted a position at the University of South Africa as Professor of Biochemistry. His research now focuses on anti-cancer and anti-microbial drug discovery and development.
