* Qualifiers:

  1. All qualifications must be completed within the maximum period allowed, which for these qualifications is three consecutive years from first registration (note: not three attempts).
  2. There is no revert-and-repeat option for unsuccessful students (for example, revert to CTA level 1 to later repeat the CTA level 2.) These students are referred to another non-CA-stream qualification, but studies towards a CA (SA) with UNISA will not be possible anymore.
  3. To qualify for admission to SAICA’s Initial test of Competence (ITC) a student must complete all five modules of the CTA level 2 (98255) in one academic year, within a maximum of three academic years from first registration.

Advanced Diploma in Accounting Sciences (Stream: Certificate in The Theory of Accounting)

[This stream represents the bridging programme towards the CTA programme, for candidates who wish to eventually qualify as Chartered Accountants]

An appropriate Diploma in Accounting Sciences or its equivalent, with at least two modules on NQF level 6 in both Financial Accounting and Management Accounting and with at least one module on NQF level 6 in Taxation.

An appropriate Bachelor's degree in Accounting Sciences or its equivalent, both with at least two modules on NQF level 6 in both Financial Accounting and Management Accounting and with at least one module in Taxation; on NQF level 6.

or

An appropriate Advanced Certificate in Accounting Sciences as well as any Diploma on NQF level 6 or any Bachelor's degree on NQF level 7.

No credits will be allowed towards the modules of this stream.

In order to proceed to the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences, all 10 the modules of stream 1 (CTA) must be passed as part of this qualification in not more than three consecutive semesters.

Candidates who do not comply with a maximum of two prerequisites may enrol for five modules during the first semester of enrolment, covering the two unfulfilled prerequisites and if successful, for the remaining seven modules in the second semester of enrolment, in order to be able to complete the qualification in 12 months. Candidates, who do not comply with more than two prerequisites, need to first complete the required prerequisites for non-diploma purposes or complete the Advanced Certificate in Accounting Sciences. In the latter instance, a transfer of up to five module credits to the certificate is possible.

Students should note that during the course of their studies they would be required to have access to a computer, a printer and the internet. This qualification will be offered using both online and distance learning modes. The qualification should be completed within the maximum time available.

Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences

Admission requirements and selection criteria 

An appropriate NQF 7 qualification in the field of Accounting Sciences from an accredited provider of higher education (as listed here).

Applicants who do not meet this requirement are advised to apply for admission to the CTA stream of the Advanced Diploma in Accounting Sciences in an attempt to meet this requirement or to consider enrolling for another postgraduate programme offered by the College.

Students who do not complete the qualification in the maximum time allowed should consider enrolling for one of the other postgraduate programmes offered by the College subject to the admission requirements of the selected qualification, with a possible transfer of credits.

Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences (CTA)

Admission requirements and selection criteria 

1. An appropriate NQF 7 qualification in the field of Accounting Sciences from an accredited provider of higher education (only as listed here), which complies with the following criteria:
i) The qualification should not be older than three years; and
ii) All the final-year modules of the admission qualification must have been completed in not more than three consecutive semesters or in the case of year modules in one academic year.

2.  An appropriate NQF level 8 qualification in the field of Accounting Sciences from an accredited provider of higher education (only as listed here).

Applicants who do not meet these requirements are advised to apply for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences or CTA stream of the Advanced Diploma in Accounting Sciences in an attempt to meet these requirements, or to consider enrolling for another postgraduate programme offered by the college.

3. Candidates with an expired Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA).

Rules:

Students should note that during the course of their studies they would be required to have access to a computer, a printer and the internet. The qualification should be completed within the maximum time available, which is three consecutive years.

This qualification may be obtained on a piece-meal basis(counting modules completed prospectively from 2016), but only students who pass all the modules in one academic year will be allowed to register for admission to SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence (ITC)

Should you wish to proceed with studies at Unisa in 2017, besides the admission requirements and selection criteria, you must in most cases also apply for admission in 2016 (as explained below).
