Student Representative Council (SRC)

Deputy Secretary General

Nonsikelelo Nako

Nonsikelelo is completing an honours degree in Media Studies. Her role is to deputise the Secretary General’s office in executing its functions. She also keeps records and consolidates reports of all SRC representatives on university committees.

“As a student coming from an underprivileged background, the crux of my work in the NSRC of Unisa will be largely, but not exclusively, focused on addressing and championing the general interests and aspirations of students coming from poor and working class roots,” says Nonsikelelo. “I will work towards addressing the bottlenecks which exist in the system at the level of administration and management so that no academically deserving student is denied access to higher education and the opportunity to successfully graduate in due time.”

Nonsikelelo adds that she will work with great dedication, professionalism, morality and a sense of humanity in tirelessly putting the agenda of students forward and making distance learning more desirable to South African students. “I will constantly and fearlessly engage with and speak truth to those in the echelons of power in the university,” she conclude
