Print Production

Production Printers originated in 1958 with the exclusive purpose of providing Unisa and its students with educational and general printing, catering for all academic and administrative departments. Today, with a staff complement in Production of almost 160 and Unisa's 120 000 enrolled students, we have grown to an enormous printing enterprise.

Intelligent printing

Our comprehensive range of printing capability offers you a choice of single or full colour, up to A1 posters, high-volume book printing, magazines, newsletters, catalogues, commercial forms and year planners, to name just a few.

During 1997 we turned 1500 tons of paper into 865 000 books, 6 000 000 manuals and 12 500 000 general printing which represent a total of 615 000 000 pages of printed manner.  

Design & layout

You have access to a team of highly skilled desktop publishing (DTP) experts experienced in all the popular page layout and design software packages including 3B2, QuarkXpress, Adobe and CorelDraw. This team also undertakes the coding and typesetting of text and commercial forms. You receive black and white or colour proofs for approval before we commence with printing.

Image setting

With our scanning facilities we are able to assist you in image capturing and manipulation of your photos, artwork or graphics. The Farrukh electronic imposition system not only means the end of labour intensive manual stripping of multi-page artwork; it also eliminates inconsistencies. We can supply you with positive or negative colour separations at your required screen ruling, up to A2 size including crop marks.

Finishing

In-house finishing equipment are among the most modern in Southern Africa.

Our services include folding machines that will fold paper into virtually unlimited configurations, a full binding gathering machine (18 stations) and two most reliable saddle stitching machines that can bind 13 000 books per hour. Three guillotines will ensure that your receive a quality finished product.
