“The chief executive and senior manager of today needs to be a much more well-rounded and versatile person than his counterpart of a decade ago,” said Mr Talib Sadik, Group CEO of Denel at the launch of the Denel Leadership and Management Development Programme (DLMDP) at the beginning of July this year.
The UNISA SBL was amongst many training institutions that submitted a proposal for the DLMDP at the end of 2009. After a rigorous procurement process, the SBL was awarded the tender and SBL academics were invited to submit proposals for the course content. They had to take into account the analysis of Denel’s corporate culture and the leadership style in the organisation and to determine the impact of these critical factors on the strategic objectives of Denel and their ability to function optimally within an ever-changing national and global environment.
“We are truly delighted at the prospect of contributing towards the development of Denel’s management. This will be another success story for the SBL in terms of understanding a company’s needs and challenges and in turn tailor making programmes to help solve those challenges,” says Prof. Abdulai.
The SBL will offer management development programmes for Denel’s middle, senior and executive management.
The SBL has a long history of successfully customised programmes for organisations, with Transnet Freightrail leading the pack on the eight years of Short Course in Labour Relations offering.
