Unisa is creating a new breed of undergraduate students that have a special focus on research. The First Annual Unisa Student Research and Innovation Day held on 27 August 2012 heralded a new breed of Unisa students. 
In light of the ever-imminent first Unisa international ODL conference, taking place from 5 to 7 September 2012, the Institute for Open and Distance Learning (IODL) hosted a seminar on 17 August 2012 as part of its ODL Occasional Lecture Series. 
At a meeting held at Unisa on 16 August 2012, Unisa and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) agreed to review and strengthen their long-standing relationship and renew their agreement, signed in 2009. First Annual Unisa Student Research and Innovation Day |
