Under the leadership of Prof Ciné van Zyl, the Department of Transport Economics, Logistics and Tourism at Unisa’s College of Economic and Management Sciences, recently hosted a meeting with representatives from the National Department of Tourism.
The purpose of the visit was to establish future research collaboration between Unisa and government, especially with regards to research needed in the tourism field.
Speaking about the various possibilities for research collaboration, Prof van Zyl said the meeting was very fruitful because the department already had a pulse on some of the key issues around which research could be conducted.
“We are very delighted about collaborating with our National Department of Tourism and are also looking forward to conducting meaningful research that will contribute to the growth and development of tourism in our country.”
The government representatives present at the meeting were The National Department of Tourism’s Chief Director: Research and Knowledge Management, Bernhard Meyer and Director Research: Ms Kholadi Tlabela.
During the discussions Meyer said, “The National Department of Tourism is committed to creating a conducive environment for growing and developing tourism through innovation, strategic partnerships and collaboration and we see Unisa as a key partner in helping us achieve our mission.”
Unisa’s Department of Transport Economics, Logistics and Tourism also has successful partnerships and initiatives with the National Department of Transport.
