The excited Makgatho Mmathari Motshekga has been studying towards her degree while juggling a demanding work schedule. Her father, Prof Mathole Motshekga – a former lecturer in Unisa’s College of Law and current ANC Chief Whip – is excited about the career path his daughter has taken. “Having worked and taught for 10 years in the field of law, I am very happy that I can now retire knowing that my daughter will take forward the family’s name. The standard of this profession is high and I am proud that my daughter is a product of this African university,” said the Prof Motshekga. The Basic Education Minister, Mrs Angie Motshekga, was also present at the graduation ceremony. Makgatho, who will be going to Harvard University later this year to pursue her master’s degree, said her father has been an inspiration through her studies. “I did my BCom Law degree here at Unisa and now I am receiving my LLB degree. My father has been a pillar of strength throughout and helped me to keep focused. I sacrificed a lot in terms of family, friends and social life to get where I am now. I am thankful for the support I got from my family. As I go to Harvard University, I want to focus on International and Comparative Law because I like Commercial Law,” said the excited Makgatho. During the current autumn graduation season, Unisa will confer over 24 000 degrees and diplomas to its students across South Africa and on the African continent. More than 57 doctoral degrees and 4 honorary degrees will also be conferred during this period. Other graduation ceremonies will be held in Cape Town, Durban, East London, Nelspruit, Bloemfontein and Polokwane. Other Unisa online News | Latest | Archive |
