Unisa online - Unisa graduates on the rise

Hard work pays

The number of graduates during Unisa’s spring graduations has increased with more than a 50 per cent increase in some categories. The graduations began on Monday 13 September 2010 with 11 ceremonies to be held in Pretoria, 3 in Durban and 2 in Cape Town.

This year, 4 472 students will graduate during this session, compared to 4 430 last year and 3 296 in 2008. A total of 232 students will receive master’s degrees compared to 169 last year; 104 students will receive postgraduate diplomas and certificates (1 & 2 years) compared to 66 last year, and 664 will received undergraduate diplomas (1 & 2 years) compared to 423 in 2009. In addition, a total 56 doctorates will be awarded, 363 postgraduate bachelor’s degrees, 864 bachelor’s degrees and a further 25 undergraduate diplomas (3 years).

The increasing enrolment at Unisa has also led to the university adding three extra examination venues. In October/November this year, a total of 310 321 students will be writing examinations compared to 279 748 in 2009.  Students, who are provided with a provisional timetable at registration, have been informed of the changes, where applicable.
