Unisa's Directorate for Counselling, Career and Academic Development, based on the Sunnyside campus, completed the basic training programme for a new group of career counselling interns.

The current group will be at Unisa from last month to 31 December 2010 and will complete a six-month internship with the Directorate. An internship is necessary in order to write the Professional Board for Psychology examinations, a prerequisite to register as a Career Counsellor with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

The basic training included counselling skills training, team role discussions, e-guidance, counselling and Unisa qualification information. As an extra value added feature and in alignment with the Open Distance Learning (ODL) spirit, the group is contributing to a wiki created for them to complete specific online activities in addition to the individual and group supervision and training provided.
