Children delight members of the string competition jury
Orphaned children at the Kingdom of Life Children Centre were treated to classical music recently when some members of the 5th Unisa String Competition jury visited one of the Unisa Music Foundation's centres.
Mr John Roos, Director of the Unisa Music Foundation; Italian violinist, Francesca Fuccurro; and three jury members --- Michael Frischenschlager from Austria, Vanya Milanova from Bulgaria and Steven Woodman from Jamaica --- visited the centre. The children were overjoyed to welcome these esteemed visitors.
The children were taught how to play a violin under the tutelage of Ms Betsi Meyer and her daughter, Joy. The visitors were stunned to see children as young as five playing the violin so well.
When the children had finished playing, Vanya Milanova and Steven Woodman played their violins. Milanova played a Bulgarian dance song with a very fast tempo, which delighted the children. Woodman then played a song which produced different musical sounds.
John Roos said that he was thrilled that the children had met the overseas visitors. "We also want to show that at Unisa, and as a country, we are deeply involved in the development of music in our communities." |
