Unisa online - Unisa staff respond to the Unisa beat

Unisa staff respond to the Unisa beat

At a very upbeat ceremony held on 11 December 2009 to close the 2009 academic year, staff congregated in the Senate Hall on the Muckleneuk campus to recall the key moments that marked Unisa's progress towards being the African university in the service of humanity.

So what then did 2009 look like for Unisa? The year began by looking at the five years since the merger and the remarkable transition Unisa has made towards becoming a new open distance and comprehensive African university. It was also a year in which Unisa dedicated itself to incorporating ODL into the teaching and learning environment. Unisa also focused on its comprehensive nature; we hosted the National Conference on Comprehensiveness during which Unisa and other higher education institutions were able to share their post-merger experiences. Two other highlights included the launch of Unisa's School for Graduate Studies at the Chancellor's Dinner in October and the signing of the partnership between Unisa and the Thabo Mbeki Institute for African Leadership.

Prof Makhanya also presented a number of college highlights. He said that the "colleges have been engaged in creative and innovative enterprises, not only in research and teaching, but also in community engagement and networking on a national and global scale."
