Proposed collaborative sexuality research

Opportunities for collaborative research and community engagement between the Departments of Psychology at Unisa and the University of Botswana (UB) were first discussed at a meeting in Gaborone, Botswana, during the 2009 Student Conference they co-hosted in June.

To further this commitment between the two universities, members of the Unisa Centre for Applied Psychology (UCAP) and the Department of Psychology at Unisa met with Dr Seipone Mphele and Dr Sophie Moagi-Gulubane from the University of Botswana in Pretoria on 17 November 2009 to discuss possibilities for research in the field of sexual health and wellbeing.

Also present at the meeting were Ms Lame Olebile from LeGaBiBo (a community-based organisation in Botswana) and internationally renowned sexuality researcher, Prof Theo Sandfort (University of Columbia) who already collaborates with UCAP, among others.

The next meeting will take place in Gaborone in early February 2010 in the form of a workshop to co-develop a funding proposal.
