Prestigious nomination for Prof Mahamed Rajah

Prof Mahamed Rajah, from the SBL, has been nominated by Tokiso Dispute Settlements for the Mediator of the Year award. Two other nominees have also been nominated for this category: Mr Charles Nupen from Gauteng and Prof Suryia Parmanand from KwaZulu-Natal. Tanya Venter, CEO at Tokiso Dispute Settlements, says: "Our panel of independent and international judges was impressed by not only the quality of the applications and nominations, but also by the diverse and complex range of issues that South African dispute resolvers deal with."

Tokiso Dispute Settlements was established in February 2001 in response to the closure of the Independent Mediation Services of South Africa (IMSSA). Since its inception, Tokiso has grown to become the largest private dispute resolution provider in South Africa, with panellists in all provinces of the country. They provide private dispute resolution services to a number of clients, including large corporations, unions, and local, provincial and national government. For employment disputes, most of their clients either use Tokiso as a complementary service to the CCMA and bargaining councils, or introduce expedited dispute resolution procedures through Tokiso for all their disputes. Tokiso’s vision is to become the premier provider of private dispute resolution services in Southern Africa.

On his nomination, Prof Rajah had this to say: "I am truly touched by the nomination. I am passionate about what I do and being recognised in this manner is an honour."

The winners of the awards will be announced at a gala dinner in Johannesburg on Friday 13 November 2009.
