Unisa’s Corporate Communication and Marketing team have much to be proud of after scooping four awards at the prestigious Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Excellence Awards.
Staff who attended the two-day conference, held this year at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, were ecstatic to walk away with four awards and to be named in the top three for their work in the field of higher and further education, marketing, communications and development.
Unisa won first prize in the External Publications: Magazine category for their brilliant and innovative Unisawise magazine. The university also received two first runner-up awards in the Annual Publications category, for which the university’s Research Report was submitted, and in the category for Campaigns: Special Events for its Open Distance Learning (ODL) Campaign entry. There were 18 award categories. Other big winners of the night were the University of the Witwatersrand, and NMMU. The University of Pretoria and Tshwane University of Technology were also victorious.
Themed "Challenges, change and champions: taking education to the cutting edge", the MACE conference aimed to equip university marketing, public relations and communication practitioners with skills and knowledge to assist them with their work and provide them with techniques to improve what they do. Delegates from higher education institutions from throughout South Africa were welcomed by MACE Chairperson, Prof Dasarath Chetty, and Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations at NMMU, Pieter Swart, on 28 October at a cocktail function at the Hobie Beach Yacht Club.
The Excellence Awards, held at the Protea Marine Hotel, was definitely the highlight of the conference as the competition focused on sound marketing and communication principles employed by practitioners. The competition aims to develop practitioners working in the various communication fields within institutions of higher learning. |
