Unisa SBL hosts first AABS Board Meeting
The Unisa SBL hosted the 3rd Association of African Business Schools (AABS) Board meeting for 2009 in Midrand on 16 October 2009. The SBL is a member of the association and Prof David Abdulai, CEO and Executive Director of the Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL), was earlier this year elected to serve on the AABS Board.
The AABS Board has overall oversight of the activities of the organisation, with members being individually elected from among member schools. All Board members must hold the title of dean or equivalent at the time of appointment, with two members of the Board representing a country. The Board is assigned the task of ensuring that the organisation’s objectives are met and these include the following:
- Stimulate business schools’ and faculties’ participation in public discourse, policy growth, private sector development, and management education and training
- Contribute to the enhancement of the leadership and management of African organisations
- Promote high standards in management and business education through cooperative efforts and the use of appropriate quality assessment systems
- Provide a forum for the expression of members’ views and interests, taking into account the interests of member institutions (including country, region, language and gender)
- Organise, promote and support information and knowledge dissemination and exchange on management education in Africa
- Promote cooperation between business schools in curriculum and faculty development improvement
- Assist in the development of teaching methodologies and research in business
The association, whose aim is to promote excellence in business management education in Africa by supporting graduate business schools through capacity building collaboration and quality improvement, was established in October 2005 and boasts a membership of 19 business schools, 7 of which are from South Africa alone. |
