Studying with us is a family tradition

Mrs Riana Brandt, one of the many alumni and prospective and current students who visited the Unisa stand at the recent Annual Windhoek Agricultural Show, completed her BCompt degree in 1995. "I still remember my student number," she said jokingly. She now runs her own business, but is also considering registering for a postgraduate degree through Unisa.

She has always encouraged her family to further their studies. Mrs Brandt’s eldest son, Kobus, has completed his BCom degree, while his younger brother, Hennie, is currently registered for a BCompt degree. Her daughter-in-law is another Unisa student, also studying for her BCom degree.

The majority of prospective students came to the Unisa stand to enquire about Unisa's academic programmes and the registration process, but Mrs Brandt came to talk about the great work Unisa has done for her and her family. She also encouraged the marketing team to continuously market the university in the international arena.

The Windhoek Agricultural Show, which took place from 25 September to 3 October 2009, was the last of eight international marketing drives for 2009 organised by the Department of Corporate Communication and Marketing and the colleges.

The marketing team consisted of Godfrey Tshikhudo: Manager of Student Marketing, La-Portia Matjila: Director of Student Admissions and Registrations, Poppie Khoza: Marketer for the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and Mayeshibe Setlatjile and Winston Rampedi, both corporate marketers.
