Midlands meets Mafikeng LO educators
About 40 Life Orientation educators from secondary schools in Mafikeng and the surrounding villages converged in Mafikeng in the Midlands Region to attend a Life Orientation workshop facilitated by Unisa staff members. The purpose of the workshop was to inform educators of Unisa's new application and registration process for 2010, the financial assistance available to students, and to provide study and examination preparation skills.
"Our purpose here is to give you information on the developments at Unisa for your benefit, your learners as well as your communities at large," Regional Communication Manager, Alex Motseoakgosi told the educators. "We all have a challenge to ensure that needy and deserving students get access to financial assistance, especially those in rural regions. There is therefore a need for a concerted effort to ensure that young people get access," he emphasised.
Mr Vincent Mabunda, the Regional Officer dealing with financial assistance in the region, briefed the educators on the processes to follow when a student needs to access financial assistance at Unisa. He emphasised the importance of achieving good marks in order to get access to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and other bursary schemes at Unisa.
Mrs Suzette Ragadu, a Student Counsellor, presented a workshop on the different study methods and examination preparation skills that educators can advise learners to use. She urged educators to take the knowledge imparted to them on how to study and prepare for examination as it will assist the learners to pass.
Similar workshops were conducted last week for LO educators in Swartreggens and Mogwase near Sun City. The next workshop will be held in Kroonstad in the first week of October 2009.
The Midlands Region is made up of the North West , Free State and Northern Cape provinces. |
