Unisa’s Theo van Wijk building was abuzz with inquisitive students during this year's Career awareness day. The event was hosted by Unisa's Directorate for Counselling, Career and Academic Development. Career development specialist at Unisa, Ms Makhanya, said that the purpose of the event was to expose students to opportunities available in companies. "We have 29 exhibitors today and we always invite institutions that will cover all Unisa's colleges," she said. "The same event is also taking place at the KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Cape Town regions."

Prof David Mosoma, Unisa's Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Principal: Student Affairs & Learner Support, was excited to see the students showing interest by engaging the exhibitors and participating during the presentations. Expressing his joy, he said that such events result in student placements, employment and bursary offers. "Such events motivate the students to work even harder on their studies, as the exhibitors tell them that they are needed out there." Prof Mosoma added that he hoped the students would utilise the knowledge they acquired during the exhibition.
Some of the exhibitors at this year's exhibition included the South African Police Service, the South African National Defence Force, the Auditor General, SARS, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Transport. Ms Makhanya expressed her gratitude to all who participated during the event. "I hope the students will form a strong network today that they will use to start their careers."
