Winners of the 2nd Unisa National String Competition announced
After an exciting final round of this event on Friday 3 July 2009, during which the finalists performed as soloists with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Arjan Tien, the winners were announced as follows:
- First prize (R50 000): Avigail Bushakevitz (21)
- Second prize (R35 000): Jacqueline Wedderburn-Maxwell (16)
- Third prize (R20 000): Vicente Espi (22)
The best cellist in the competition, Jacques-Pierre Malan (21), received a total amount of R12 000 in special prizes.
Avigail, Jacqueline and Vicente will compete in the 5th Unisa International String Competition 2010, while Jacques-Pierre and the other competitors will have to submit new applications for the international event scheduled to take place between 22 January and 5 February 2010.
