Bringing ideas and money together
Unisa and Heinemann co-hosted the launch of the second edition of Managing public money: systems of the south by Koos Pauw, Gavin Woods, Gert van der Linde, David Fourie and Christiaan Visser in the Protea restaurant on the Muckleneuk campus on 2 July 2009.
A highly successful management text that develops public financial management skills within a framework of information on financial legislation, structures and technologies in the public sector, this edition also includes sections on municipal financial management and the latest diagnostics for evaluating public financial management at country level.
Prof Koos Pauw, from the Department of Public Administration and lead author of the book, emphasised that all the authors have a commitment to public financial administration and management, and want to facilitate and improve the discipline. "We approached public finance and management from the line manager's perspective by giving the basic background to managing public money from the point of view of engaging intellectually with the field," he explained.
"Books remain for many the main source of information," said Ms Ruth Kagia, World Bank Country Director for Southern Africa, "but it is rare that you find a book that meets the needs of a broad range of individuals at their point of need. Since the essential role of the World Bank is to bring ideas together with money, what I liked about reading it, is that it not only conceptualises the issues, but comprehensively treats how you manage money from A to Z."
The book can be purchased at the Protea Bookshop in Pretoria and other leading book sellers. |
