A progressive and innovative student access system at Vudec

The ICDL staff in the Pretoria Hub (Gauteng region) have created an e-system which regulates and monitors student access to the computer labs. The labs are located in the Vudec building in Skinner Street.

The system consists of a database of students which staff update regularly using Excel and a laser scanner. This system also has the capacity to be used to calculate weekly and monthly statistics.

The staff have also created a wall system which holds student cards; this makes it easier to see how many students are in the lab and if there is still space available for students. This has improved efficiency and the time the students can spend using the computers.

The system is also being used on the Sunnyside campus and in Durban.

Niret Grobler is busy writing a manual for the system, which will make it easier to implement at other regions.
