Unisa online - Unisa's 2009 Student Representative Council elections

Unisa's 2009 Student Representative Council elections

The statute of the University of South Africa, in accordance with section 32 of the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997, provides for the establishment of a Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in the constitution of the structures of the university. The statute makes provision for student participation in the composition of Unisa's Council, Senate, the Institutional Forum and in College Boards. It further provides that the SRC functions within the overall structure of Unisa, and performs its duties as outlined by the Higher Education Act, Institutional Statute, its constitution and other relevant policies of the University of South Africa.

A Unisa Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was established on 7 May 2009 by Prof DL Mosoma, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-Principal: Learner Support & Student Affairs, to conduct the 2009 elections for a national SRC and six regional SRCs during the months of May, June and July 2009.
