Young piano prodigy makes his debut at Unisa

The 15-year old piano prodigy, Thabiso Mfana, made his debut in the Dr Miriam Makeba Concert Hall during a free lunch hour concert held at Unisa with the Charl du Plessis Jazz Piano trio.

Thabiso began his piano training at the MC Art Academy under the guidance of Martha Lekhonyana at the South African State Theatre. He won prizes at the Unisa Youth Music Festivals and due to his outstanding talent and rapid progress, the Unisa Music Foundation arranged for Thabiso to continue his piano studies with Charl du Plessis at the University of Pretoria.

Charl was so impressed with Thabiso that he offered to give him piano lessons free of charge. The Unisa Music Foundation also organised an upright piano to be delivered on loan to Thabiso's home so he can follow his busy practice schedule unhindered.
