International honour bestowed on Unisa SBL

The Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) has scooped an award from EDUNIVERSAL.

EDUNIVERSAL was formed in 2007 and aims to provide students around the world with assistance in selecting the best universities in particular fields. Unlike other newspaper and magazine rankings that focus mainly on MBA programmes, EDUNIVERSAL identifies the best business schools. By creating this unique service, EDUNIVERSAL provides students, professionals, HR executives and academic officers with a global panorama of the best educational opportunities.

EDUNIVERSAL rated the top 1 000 business schools in the world out of an estimated 3 000+ worldwide. The unique ranking of world business schools took place from October 2007 to April 2008. The awards were presented at the EDUNIVERSAL World Convention at La Sorbonne, Paris, on 4 November 2008 and recognised the best institutions within each of the nine EDUNIVERSAL geographical zones: Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Latin America, Northern America, Central Asia, Far Eastern Asia and Oceania.

The ranking was performed in two stages. During the first stage, the International Scientific Committee selected 1 000 business schools from 153 countries from the 9 geographical zones. During the second stage, the selected schools were grouped in terms of 5 leagues and ranked according to palms granted. The main criteria included international recognition of business schools, international accreditations, membership of international academic associations and guilds, and position in international, regional or national rankings.

The SBL received three palms and the school is recognised as an excellent business school with strong national and continental links. According to Prof David Abdulai, CEO and Executive Director of the SBL:  "The prize is a very important achievement for the SBL as it shows that the work that has been done so far is acknowledged internationally. The award highlights the growing success of the SBL and rewards the efforts made by our team."
