Unisa SBL CEO elected to serve on AABS Board
Prof David Abdulai, CEO and Executive Director of the Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL), was recently elected to serve on the Board of the Association of African Business Schools (AABS).
AABS was registered as a non-profit organisation in 2007. It aims to promote excellence in business and management education in Africa by supporting graduate business schools through capacity building, collaboration and quality improvement. The Association currently boasts a membership of 19 member schools from all over the continent.
The AABS Board has overall oversight of the activities of the organisation, with members being individually elected from among member schools. All Board members must hold the title of Dean or equivalent at the time of appointment, with two members of the Board representing a country. The Board has, among others, the following duties:
- Administering the affairs of the Association
- Representing the Association publicly
- Being accountable to the Association and reporting on its activities at the Association’s meetings
- Executing resolutions taken at the Association’s meetings
- Receiving funds and making payments on behalf of the Association
- Undertaking proper accounting and financial recording of the Association’s revenue, expenditure and financial position
Prof Abdulai feels honoured to occupy this prestigious position, previously held by the former Director of the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business, Prof Frank Horwitz. He is ready to take on the challenging task of ensuring that AABS develops programmes that will improve the practice of management in African organisations, and to enhance the relevance and contribution of business schools to policy debate on African development research and policy development. Prof Abdulai is dedicated to ensuring that AABS demonstrates their members’ commitment to significantly increase the contribution that business schools make to the economic and general development of the African continent. His appointment will go a long way to enhancing the image and reputation of the SBL as the leading African business school of choice offering internationally recognised leadership and management education. |
