The ODL implementation project team has no small task ahead of it, because it is up to this team to ensure that the proverbial right hand knows what the left hand is doing when it comes to the roll-out of the open and distance learning model. The main objective of the team is to ensure integration and close alignment of all ODL-related activities at Unisa.
Ms Thelma Louw, project leader, explained that there are seven task teams and that each will focus on a different aspect of the ODL implementation process, such as assessment, ICT infrastructure and systems, learner support, policy analysis and alignment, power courses, professional development and registration. The task team convenors have been meeting once a week since January this year to share their progress with one another and to discuss possible ways to support the sound implementation of ODL at Unisa.
According to Ms Louw, "there is also close liaison between the ODL task team convenors and Unisa's Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mandla Makhanya, the project sponsor." The ODL task team convenors will actively participate in the ODL workshop Prof Makhanya will be hosting on 1 and 2 March 2009. |
