The 2nd Annual myUnisa Excellence Award Ceremony was held in the Senate Hall on the Muckleneuk campus on Wednesday 11 February 2009. This year, the theme was "Towards quality engagement" and the speakers focused on how myUnisa can be used to meet some of the challenges of teaching by distance.

The two nominees for the myUnisa Excellence Award were Ronell van der Merwe from the School of Computing and Annemarie Davis from the Department of Business Management. They both demonstrated how they apply various tools in myUnisa to encourage interaction and engagement with the course content, and how they develop a sense of community for their students and help them to make connections between their studies and the real world.

Marco Pretorius from the School of Computing also gave a brief presentation about the Usability Lab at Unisa and some of the research he has been conducting for the myUnisa and Unisa websites. Francette Myburgh from ICT-PAS then presented some preliminary feedback on the myUnisa Student Survey that went out at the end of 2008. Harry Marx from ICT also gave a brief description of the Digital Assignment Routing system that is tied in with the on-screen marking initiative.
