During 2009, the Unisa Music Foundation will present a free lunch hour concert each month in the Film Auditorium.
At their first concert of the year, held on Friday 23 January, the veteran Jazz trumpet player, Johnny Mekoa, performed with the Mekoa Jazz Octet from the Music Academy of Gauteng. The Principal, Prof Barney Pityana, was in the audience and enjoyed the programme which consisted of exciting arrangements of popular works by South African composers.
Johnny and the octet were thrilled with the excellent acoustics and the other facilities provided at this venue.
Don't miss the next free lunch hour concert to be held on Friday 13 February 2009. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day? The brilliant saxophonist, Chats Devroop, newly appointed Deputy Director in the Department of Music, will perform popular items with his Jazz Ensemble "YBird". Remember entrance is free, so bring your colleagues along. |
