Unisa online - Welcome to Mr MC Baloyi, our new Dean of Students

Mr MC Baloyi

Unisa's new Dean of Students, Mr MC Baloyi, started at the university on 5 January 2009 "just in time to welcome staff members back from their holidays."

As a Unisa graduate (he holds a Master's degree in Public Administration) and now as a member of staff, he believes that it is impossible to compare Unisa with other institutions of higher learning. The primary reason for this, according to him, is because we are an Open Distance Learning institution with a diverse and vast audience. "Although we have little face-to-face contact with our students, our students are not far from us. We must be ever conscious of this and of the need to do our best for them."

While Mr Baloyi acknowledges that there are many challenges facing students at Unisa (such as the fact that Unisa has no SRC, student disabilities and students requiring financial assistance to access education), his priority is to provide quality service to Unisa students. "We are responsible for our promises and need to deliver on these promises if we are going to earn our students' trust and gain credibility. This is where each individual can make a difference and I commit to only promising what I can deliver."
