Prof Pityana and Prof Reddy exchange signed agreements after the signing ceremony

Partnership with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad

During a visit to Hyderabad, AP, India, the Unisa delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor, and Prof Narend Baijnath, Vice-Principal: Strategy, Planning & Partnerships and Ms Siza Magubane, Director International Relations, visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad on 27 November 2008. The Vice-Chancellor was in India to attend the Executive Heads Meeting of the Association of Commonwealth Universities from 28 to 30 November 2008.

The Unisa delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof DN Reddy, Dr K Lal Kishore, the Rector, and the entire executive team of the university. JNTU is the only central university dedicated to science, engineering and technology. There is also a thriving School of Business Management and ICT has become crucial as Hyderabad has become India’s silicone city. The university offers postgraduate qualifications in the sciences, engineering and environmental sciences. The team was taken on a tour of the facilities and was highly impressed by the work that is being done in Computer Sciences, Engineering and Environmental Sciences. The team felt that there were interesting synergies with Unisa programmes and research that could bring advantage to the partnership.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by the two Vice-Chancellors on 30 November 2008.

Prof Reddy is proposing a visit to Unisa in May 2009 accompanied by some of the academics, especially Dr Lakshimi Narasu Mangamoori, the Director of the Institute of Science and Technology, who is doing remarkable work in the sciences.
