Following the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the University of South Africa (Unisa) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Nigeria, members of the Research Niche Area "Ecotoxicology, Bio-organic and Natural Products", led by Prof Mphahlele, organised a five-day visit (26 to 31 October 2008) to the University of Lagos (Nigeria). The main aim of the visit was to interact with peers and experts at UNILAG in order to identify research areas of common interest and to kick-start collaboration. According to Prof Mphahlele, this visit has "yielded many possibilities for cooperation and synergy in the field of ecotoxicology and natural products research."
The visit was made possible by the Directorate of International Relations and Partnerships which awarded the team a grant to travel to Lagos (Nigeria). In the words of the Vice-Principal: Strategy, Planning and Partnerships, Prof N Baijnath, "the institution-to-institution partnership agreement is generally a statement of intent or commitment, and not envisaged to be restrictive in any way." It is hoped that this visit will lead to other agreements being reached. |
