Unisa online - Partnership with the Thabo Mbeki Leadership InstituteThe University of South Africa is in the process of establishing a partnership with the Thabo Mbeki Leadership Institute (TMLI). The Institute will be pursuing objectives in line with those of Unisa. There are also objectives Unisa will pursue that are mutually beneficial, related to scholarly exchange, training and development opportunities, and visiting intellectuals, especially from the African Diaspora. Prof Narend Baijnath, Vice-Principal: Strategy, Planning and Partnerships said: "The current status is that we have had consultations on the partnership objectives, and have reduced these to a draft agreement. Unisa is satisfied that the objectives contained therein are consonant with our institutional partnership objectives. The draft agreement is being considered by the TMLI. Dr Joe Diescho, head of Unisa’s International Office has been in contact with Adv Mojanku Gumbi to map the way forward. We anticipate the establishment of the Institute early next year, after which the objectives will be pursued. As has been indicated in the press report, the TMLI intended to raise its own funds and be autonomous from Unisa."
