A new registration process will be introduced at Unisa from 2009. To inform stakeholders in the Northern Cape of the new process and what it involves, the Marketing and Communication Unit of the Midlands region recently organised an information session in Kathu, a fast-growing mining town in the Northern Cape. Representatives from government departments, municipalities and the media attended the event.
In his welcome address, Mr Mathews Kokong, Acting Regional Director, emphasised the need for regular communication between Unisa and its external stakeholders. "Our stakeholders are very important to us; we exist because of them and we therefore have to nurture the relationship we have," he said.
According to Mr Kokong, the Northern Cape as a rural province faces many challenges. He said universities cannot establish satellite offices and campuses in the region, since the province does not have enough students.
Mrs Linda Proctor, Mrs Maria Louw, Mr Kingsley Mokomane and Mr Danie Langner also made presentations. Some of the topics discussed included the services offered by Unisa in the region, such as tutorial services, how to make good use of myUnisa, and what the open and distance learning (ODL) model entails.
A similar information session was also hosted by the Marketing and Communication Unit at Upington where they addressed the Training Unit of the South African Police Services (SAPS). |
