Origen Capital, a service provider, recently signed an agreement with UNISA, UNISA Foundation & Alumni Affairs (UF&AA) to implement a portal to assist alumni and students in facilitating career development through matching corporate requirements.

Origen Capital will work together with the University and the UF&AA to enhance and augment existing services towards alumni and students. This will be done by offering a link between corporate companies seeking talent, the alumni and students of the University. The portal will be accessible by alumni and students, and select corporates with the aim of facilitating the career development of the candidates through matching corporate requirements with available talent.

This is a single platform for the worldwide talent of UNISA’s alumni to be able to view career opportunities in select companies, both within SA and abroad.

“UNISA’s alumni represent an amazingly rich talent database, and Origen Capital aims to harness this talent, making the matching of alumni talent to corporate career opportunities a far more efficient process, said Director of Origen Capital, Dave van Breda. The alumni career portal is aimed at not only assisting experienced alumni and graduates with finding employment, but is also a window into the market and available opportunities. The portal will reveal company names, and in depth requirements, and it will allow alumni to apply for jobs by simply clicking ‘APPLY'.

Portal to become crossroads

The career portal is also an opportunity for the many UNISA alumni that either have their own companies, or work for other companies, where finding the right talent is crucial. This portal will become the crossroads of talent seekers and job hunters. Your information will never be disclosed to companies without your express permission, so registering on the portal is completely confidential.

The UF&AA Director Ms Patricia Lawrence said the agreement presented an opportunity for both alumni and students to have an insight into the job market and will also benefit from the job opportunities available worldwide. “There’s a scarcity of jobs the world over and this will indeed seek to identify gaps to be filled by the right talent and skills which we grow here at UNISA,” she added.

Registering on the portal comes at no cost to the student and alumni. The portal will be available for use at the end of July 2008.
