Unisa online - African Youth speak upAfrican “Youth speak up” is set to engage youth to articulate their identity, awaken their conscious about Africa and its cultural identities. It is a project that aims to create a platform for the African youth to bring about cultural integration and make the African renaissance a reality in the making of the envisaged Africa flag. This is a collaborative project between UNISA’s Community Engagement and Outreach Directorate (CEOD) and the Centre for African Renaissance Studies (CARS) as well as the support of UNESCO. The project, which will culminate in the Youth month celebrations, hopes to achieve much needed space in which African youths will be given space to articulate their identity and in the process engage in the knowledge of Africa as a continent and awaken their conscious about Africa and its cultural identities. As this is a pilot project to work towards adding African history in our school curriculum and also teaching our youth to be patriotic about their country and continent, UNESCO has promised to come on board with African literature that needs to be modified to high schools. More details of the project to follow soon. |
