Unisa online - Virtuoso performer at Alumni Concert Virtuoso violinist Philippe Graffin enthralled the audience at the Alumni Fundraising Concert with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) on 6 June 2008.
Philippe’s imaginative performance of the Brahms Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 (on a Domenico Busano violin made in Venice in 1730) explained why Gramophone magazine proclaimed that ‘his understanding of the idiom is second to none’. He has shared the stage with some of the greatest musicians of our time, such as Lord Yehudi Menuhin and Martha Argerich. Charismatic and energetic Grant Llewellyn, Music Director of the North Carolina Symphony and Principal Conductor of the Handel and Haydn Society, conducted. This was the first music event organised by the Pretoria Alumni Chapter together with the UNISA Foundation and Alumni Affairs (UF&AA), in collaboration with the UNISA Music Foundation and the JPO. Ms Pat Lawrence, Director of the UF&AA, hopes that this will become an annual event on the UNISA calendar.
