Unisa online - Take a Girl Child to Work Day takes place this week

UNISA’s annual Take a Girl Child to Work Day 2008 in partnership with Cell C takes place this week Thursday, 29 May 2008. For Cell C this marks the 6th anniversary and the 3rd for UNISA.

This campaign provides the learners with the opportunity to spend a day at “work”. This initiative is endorsed by the National Department of Education and targets girl children in Grade 10, 11 and 12. By investing in this day, you will help us inspire our nation’s girl children to make informed choices about their future careers. 2008 Theme – “Choice Empowers”

The young girl of today needs the opportunity to come to her own conclusions, make her own
informed decisions and experience some sense of empowerment in the decisions that she makes. She needs to feel that she can positively affect the world in which she lives.

The theme provides UNISA to:

  • Make opportunities and resources available - actively promote and provide young women with access to key resources, right information, knowledge to make the right choices and carve a niche for themselves
  • Take the lead in real transformation and leadership development
  • Provide the platform for their active participation in economic activities
  • Provide an enabling environment for them to grow and develop in the workplace

Last year “the project was a success” and provided the girls with an opportunity to meet role models at UNISA where about 126 learners participated.
