Four UNISA academic staff received the Principal’s Prize for Research at the first of the autumn graduations held on 21 April 2008 at the ZK Matthews Hall. Ms Malefa Malefane, School of Economic Sciences; Dr Susanna Coetzee, School of Management Sciences; Ms Janette Hanekom, School of Arts, Education, Languages and Communication; Professor Michelle Kelly-Louw, School of Law; and Ms Keshnee Padayachee, School of Computing, were the recipients of this prestigious prize awarded for research excellence to staff aged 35 or younger.
The objective of the Principal’s Prize is to accord recognition for promising young researchers and to encourage increased excellence in research activity. The prize is awarded every second year. Professor Rita Maré, Vice-Principal: Academic and Research, commended the recipients and asked the audience to note that all UNISA’s young researchers of excellence are women.
Excellence in Tuition award
Also achieving recognition was Mr Frederik Serfontein, who received an Excellence in Tuition award for 2007. The award recognises excellence in the development of study material and supporting courseware; to challenge academics to explore their academic creativity to the fullest and to benchmark quality and resourcefulness in order to encourage colleagues to follow suit. |
