On Tuesday 15 April 2008 a delegation from the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice visited UNISA on an educational tour. Principal and Vice-Chancellor Prof Barney Pityana initiated the visit so that the ministry could be briefed on the various educational qualifications that the College of Law offers.
The College of Law engaged the Ethiopian Police Services on their various training needs, as well as diversity of qualifications for the police services that are available at UNISA. The Ethiopian Police Services expressed a need to respond to issues on gender-based violence, violence against children as well as needing assistance in the training of police officials, judges and prosecutors.
In response, the College of Law determined what they could offer in their capacity, but also engaged the ministry if they would have the capacity to brief and handle the various postgraduate studies that would be offered by UNISA.
The Ethiopian State Justice Minister, Semegne Wube and Federal First Instance Court President, Desalegn Derhe were part of the Ethiopian delegation.
