BRICS countries are marching ahead in the energy sector with new energy strategies. Due to a rapid development in industry and energy consumption,  a critical breakdown is being escalated in these countries. However, research and innovation is occurring on a large scale in the energy sector of these countries in an attempt to counter such a criticality.

This background provides a context for the sharing of ideas and strategies in the area of ‘energy innovation’ in the BRICS countries. Thus, Unisa has deemed this an appropriate time for scientists and other scholars from these countries to not only meet and engage with new results, but also share ideas.

The BRICS symposium focuses on innovation in energy and materials that are associated with the new emerging energy technologies.
