C2A team encourages Soweto high school students

On Friday 27 January 2012, the Chance 2 Advance team accompanied Mr SM Phuthego (Director of Unisa’s Internal Audit Department) to a career day at his former high school, Kelokitso High School, in Soweto.

Presenting a session on "The liberating power of reading", Chance 2 Advance project manager, Dr GL James, took students through the different types of reading to prepare them adequately for their matric exams, further study and the labour market.

The learners enjoyed the reading exercises, and were left with a better understanding of the significance of their final year at school and the opportunities that await them if they are determined to seize them. The primary focus of the workshop was the importance of lifelong learning and how it can contribute to greater choices and ample opportunities in the post-school period.

As an active member of the community, Mr Phuthego planned this exciting event with colleagues who are also former Kelokitso High School students. They showed that they are willing to give back to their community through the continued support of their high school.

The day will be fondly remembered by the learners of Kelokitso.
