Unisa, your postgraduate degree and you

A postgraduate degree is what you make of it. Initially, it requires careful planning, consideration and, once you start studying, hard work, focus, determination and the capability for independent research. These skills would have been developed to some extent in your previous studies. Your master's or doctoral studies will develop them further.

By now you should also have a good idea about where your interests lie, where you want to focus and what you want from your degree. If not, there is further information on this website to help you make the right choice. You have to be 100% sure of your particular focus area. Once you begin, there's no turning back.

Just remember, a master’s or doctoral degree differs from an undergraduate and honours degree in one important respect. It encourages you to think independently rather than simply learning from existing knowledge. It can be an exhilarating experience, a true journey of discovery or, conversely, a bit daunting.  Either way, use what you learnt in your previous studies, make use of the services and resources offered by Unisa, work conscientiously and methodically, and you’ll stand every chance of success.
